Daniel Lavinder, CPA

(owner)

Daniel Lavinder, CPA is currently the owner of Guardian Solutions a Small Business Tax and Accounting firm. After 20+ years of service in the United States Coast Guard flying helicopters, managing finances, and improving business processes, he wanted to use these same skills to help small business owners grow and succeed, while showing his appreciation for their hard work! In 2022 he started preparing tax returns and quickly realized he wanted to develop an accounting firm that proactively worked with clients to grow their business, serve their customers better, and enjoy the fruits of their labor!

Daniel is originally from Richmond, VA. After graduating high school he attended the Coast Guard Academy and received his commission. Midway through his career he was selected to attend the College of William & Mary, where he received his MBA and Masters of Accounting. It was during this time that he discovered his entrepreneurial passion. He is married to Sarah and together they have 5 children, Nolan, Felicity, Edith, Margaret, and Gideon who keep them laughing and young in spirit. They are active members of St. Bede’s Catholic Church and enjoy spending time with their children, neighbors and friends at Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, and the neighborhood pool. Daniel has developed the three C’s of Care, Commitment and Competence for him and his associates to live by.

Grace MacDowall is currently the lead associate of Guardian Solutions. While working in a career as a teacher, she became interested in the world of taxes and bookkeeping in order to find new ways of applying her skills of organization and detail oriented precision. Grace primarily works with small business owners, keeping track of their finances and staying on top of invoicing, billing, and any potentially incorrect expenditure. She has developed a passion for how this detailed work with business owners can help them to understand their work better and improve their companies.

Grace was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. She attended the College of William & Mary to study Classics, with concentrations in Greek and Latin, in order to become a Latin teacher for high school students. After working as a teacher for several years in Charlottesville, Virginia, Grace has developed a passion for more analytical work with a schedule to allow her to be involved in her family and community. Grace is married to Tyler, who has also worked as a teacher, and they are both involved in their church, All Saints Anglican, as well as their circle of friends. Grace is passionate about classical education and developing a love of learning and virtue, and she brings this love not only into her accounting work, but also her reading, knitting, and cooking enthusiasms. The foundation of these loves is a desire to develop a rich community which is based on respect and honor.
